Best time to visit Mokpo
• a note or something on ✦ an occasion worth the trip
Spring is the easiest season, mild with the Yudalsan Spring Festival in early April and the fountain season starting.
Monsoon rain usually runs from late June into July, with heavy rain and the start of typhoon season.
Min-eo croaker season peaks from late July to mid August, and the fountain runs its fullest schedule.
Autumn gives the clearest Dadohae views and the port festival season, and the fountain winds down through November.
Winter brings cold sea wind, no fountain shows, more cable car and ferry weather stops, and the cheapest rooms.

Mokpo travel tips: tourist traps to skip
- Monday: the city museums close and the fountain does not perform, so save museums for another day.
- Confirm price, origin and portion before live fish or skate is cut, as Heuksando hongeo costs far more than imported.
- Do not pay peak min-eo prices out of season without asking what fish is actually being served.
- Do not plan around Muan Airport, which has been closed since December 2024 with no reopening date in 2026 reporting.
Getting around Mokpo: public transport and more
- Walk the old town: station, museums, Yudalsan and the ferry piers are all close together.
- Take a bus or cheap taxi for Hadang, Gatbawi and Bukhang, each about 2 to 5 km away.
- Carry destinations written in Korean with a map pin, as taxi drivers may speak little English.
