Where to stay in Incheon
Songdo
first trip, all-round base for 2 to 4 nights
Clean, green and spacious with Central Park and metro on your doorstep, though quiet and corporate after 9pm.
Yeongjong Island
layovers, last nights, resort trips, families and concerts
Five to fifteen minutes from the airport with shuttles, beaches and two mega resorts, but isolating for longer stays.
Open Port / Incheon Station / Sinpo
1 to 2 night food and history stay
Wake up in Chinatown and walk the Open Port sights and Wolmi Sea Train, with older stock and hillier streets.
Bupyeong
locals, budget and repeat visitors
Huge underground shopping, dense cheap dining and direct Line 1 to Seoul, but a commute to every coastal sight.
Think twice about
- Dongincheon / Incheon Station underpasses and back streets
Gritty, dim and charmless after dark as a hotel base. Stay in the signed Chinatown and Sinpo hotel streets instead.
- Industrial port and warehouse strips, Yeonan / Hang-dong waterfront
Truck traffic, few pedestrians and nothing to walk to away from the signed tourist piers. No reason to sleep there.
- Cheongna International City
Safe and modern but residential and far from every sight, a stranding risk for a short stay.
- Rural Ganghwa / Gyodong after dark
Safe but unlit, bus free and taxi scarce without a car. Day trip it or sleep in Ganghwa town.

Is Incheon safe?
- Incheon is very safe overall, main risks are traffic, heat, winter wind and tide awareness.
- Never walk far out on exposed mudflats as the tide turns, the west coast tidal range reaches about 9 metres.
- Check air quality on fine dust days, carry masks and favour indoor picks when it spikes.
- Bring your passport for Gyodong, which requires passing a Marine checkpoint with ID checks.
- Island ferries are weather and tide dependent, never schedule a same day flight off a morning ferry return.
Incheon travel tips: tourist traps to skip
- At Sorae, agree total price and unit before fish is weighed and killed, and walk away from vagueness.
- Wolmi Theme Park is a nostalgic fairground, not a rival to Wonderbox. Pay per ride and keep expectations folksy.
- Songwol-dong is 45 minutes inside a bigger walk, not a half day attraction.
- Unseo is an airport service town to sleep and eat in, not a neighbourhood to sightsee.
- Resort food at INSPIRE and Paradise is excellent and expensive, one resort dinner is a treat, not every meal.
Getting around Incheon: public transport and more
- AREX express reaches Seoul Station in about 43 minutes from Terminal 1, all stop trains serve Unseo and Geomam.
- Incheon Metro Lines 1 and 2 plus Seoul Line 1 cover Songdo, Bupyeong and the old town.
- Get a T-money card at the airport and load 10,000 to 20,000 won to start for metro, buses and many taxis.
- Use Naver Map or KakaoMap, not Google Maps, as Google walking and transit directions are limited in Korea.
- Taxis and Kakao T are the sane choice for groups of 3 to 4 crossing between districts.
