Things to do in Daejeon
And where to stay, the best time to visit, what a day costs, and the traps to skip.
Best time to visit Daejeon
• a note or something on ✦ an occasion worth the trip
Spring, joint best. Blossom in early April at Daecheong, KAIST and Hanbat, then green late spring with fewer crowds.
Monsoon core. Gyeryongsan flood closures and muddy clay trails, so pivot to museums, bathhouses, markets and night games.
Hottest month, but the Zero O Clock Festival makes August the point for festival visitors. Book rooms and trains ahead.
Autumn, joint best and the food season. Jangtaesan and Gyeryongsan foliage peaks late October to November, with October the best month overall.
Winter, quietest and hot spring season. Foot baths steam in freezing air, trails empty and hotels are cheapest outside Seollal.

- Do not day trip from Seoul and expect more than the bakery queue and one noodle bowl. Stay one night.
- Avoid the main shop Sungsimdang queue at noon on a summer Saturday. Go weekday morning or use a branch.
- Do not sell Hanbit Tower and Expo Park as a headline half day. Pair them with Hanbat Arboretum.
Getting around Daejeon: public transport and more

- Use Naver Map or KakaoMap, not Google Maps, for walking and transit directions in Korea.
- T-money covers metro and bus. Taxis are cheap and plentiful and suit trailheads and groups.
