Things to do in Jeju Island
And where to stay, the best time to visit, what a day costs, and the traps to skip.
Best time to visit Jeju Island
• a note or something on ✦ an occasion worth the trip
Winter: camellia, citrus and snow Hallasan, no crowds and cheap rooms, with the strongest winds and a look not swim sea.
Spring blossom season: Jeju Fire Festival in March, king cherry in late March and rapeseed fields through April.
A best month: 18 to 25C, Hallasan azaleas, golf golden month and pre monsoon clarity.
Hydrangeas and beach season opening, then monsoon rain from late June, so keep museum flex days.
Worst unless a booked early beach trip is the goal: peak crowds and prices, humidity, jellyfish and typhoon risk.
The hinge month: sea still swimmable into early October, plus the Chuseok surge and peak typhoon window.
Best months overall with May: dry air, foliage, silver grass, clearest diving, golf and tangerine picking from late October.

Is Jeju Island safe?

- Swim only inside roped areas in season, and obey Yongmeori and cliff closures in storms and high seas.
- Hallasan summit is far colder and windier than the coast, so turn around at shelter deadlines.
- Speed and school zone cameras are everywhere, rural roads are dark at night, and the drink drive limit is 0.03 percent.
- Do not enter tangerine orchards or oreum pasture uninvited, climb batdam walls, or leave rubbish on trails and beaches.
Jeju Island travel tips: tourist traps to skip
- Circling the island in a day, about 180 km before stops, giving rushed minutes per sight and hours in a vehicle.
- Jeju Loveland as a headline sight, an hour at most and repetitive for many visitors.
- Jungmun museum belt bundles of teddy bear, chocolate and similar museums burning a day without seeing Jeju.
- Unpriced seafood anywhere, so agree the total before anything is prepared, especially live seafood by weight.
- Aewol Cafe Street hopping as a day plan, paying view priced coffees to sit still five times.
Getting around Jeju Island: public transport and more
- Rent a car and split the island into east, south and west days, never criss crossing it in one day.
- You need a physical International Driving Permit, plus passport and home licence, with no digital workaround.
- Google Maps does not work properly in Korea, so download Naver Map or KakaoMap for driving and buses.
- Without a car, use private taxi day tours, express buses from Seogwipo or Jeju City, and Kakao T for last miles.
- Jeju flights cancel in high wind, so never schedule a tight same evening international connection after Jeju.
