Best time to visit Jeju City & North
• a note or something on ✦ an occasion worth the trip
Winter brings strong wind, cheap rooms, peak tangerine season and snow on Hallasan, with a winter entry cut-off of 11:30am on summit trails.
King cherry blossom lines Jeonnong-ro in late March, rapeseed follows on the coast, and the Fire Festival burns at Saebyeol Oreum in Aewol.
The spring sweet spot: warm, dry, azaleas on the upper Hallasan trails and beaches good for walking before the guarded season.
Monsoon rain in late June and July, then the guarded beach season opens at Hamdeok, Iho Tewoo, Gimnyeong and Woljeongri.
Warmest sea and liveliest beaches, with peak crowds, jellyfish risk and peak typhoon risk. Keep a buffer day.
The finest stretch: dry air, silver grass, Hallasan foliage from late October, tangerine picking and the Tamna Culture Festival in the old town.
What's on

Think twice about

Both are fine slow stays, but each puts an early flight 45 to 60 minutes away on a wind-exposed coast road. Sleep in the city on the last night.

Jeju City & North travel tips: tourist traps to skip
- Cafe-hopping Aewol as a day plan: pick one cafe, at sunset, after the Handam Coastal Walk.
- Unpriced seafood at any market stall or shore tent: agree the total before anything is cut or cooked.
- Treating Yongduam or Samseonghyeol as half-day sights: they are 15 and 30 minutes, and better for it.
Getting around Jeju City & North: public transport and more
- Sleep in the city on first and last nights: the airport is 10 to 15 minutes from Yeondong and about 20 from the old downtown.
- City and coast buses plus Kakao T taxis genuinely work on this coast, the only part of Jeju where a car-free trip is easy.
- Use Naver Map or KakaoMap in Korea, not Google Maps, and expect speed cameras and enforced 30 km/h school zones when driving.
