SWEARBY
Privacy policy
Updated October 22, 2026
Swearby helps you plan trips from places people you trust swear by. This page says what we keep, why, who else sees it, and how to delete it. We don't sell your data, we don't show ads, and we don't track you across other apps or websites.
What you give us
- Your phone number, to sign you in with a texted code and to text you about your trips.
- Your profile: name, username, photo, and anything you add, like a bio, home city, pronouns, interests and answers to profile prompts.
- Places you save or rate, with your scores, notes, photos and when you went.
- Trips: cities, dates, stops, who's coming, and details you add such as flight times, stays, booking codes, packing lists and budgets.
- Costs you log, who owes what, and the payment usernames you choose to share (Venmo, Cash App, PayPal, Revolut, Wise, Zelle or Apple Cash) so friends can pay you.
- Polls, votes and replies, including texts you send to the Swearby number.
- Who you follow and who you trust for what, plus anyone you block or report.
What your phone shares, and only when you allow it
- Location, only while you use the app: to centre the map on you and to search near you. We don't store where you are.
- Photos you pick. When you import photos to find places you've been, we read each photo's place and date to match it to a spot. Photos are re-saved before upload without their location data.
- Camera, when you take a photo of a place or a receipt.
- Contacts, when you choose to find friends: the numbers are checked against Swearby accounts and then discarded, not stored. When you invite one person, we keep the name and number you picked so we can text them.
- Notifications: a push token so we can tell you about your trips.
Who can see what
- Other Swearby members can see your profile and the places you've saved and rated, with your scores and notes.
- Trips are invite-only unless you choose friends or everyone. A trip link you share shows the trip's outline, never flights, stays or notes.
- Who you trust for what is only ever visible to you.
- Your phone number is never shown to other members. Your payment usernames are shown only to people who owe you money.
People who aren't on Swearby
When you invite someone by text, we keep their number and the name you gave them so we can text them about that trip or poll. Their replies are handled like any text to Swearby. Anyone can text STOP to stop all texts from us, and can ask us to delete their details using the contact below.
Services that help us run Swearby
We share only what each one needs to do its job:
- Supabase: sign-in, our database and photo storage.
- Railway: the servers Swearby runs on.
- Twilio and Sendblue: sending and receiving texts and iMessages, including sign-in codes.
- Anthropic: AI that reads texts you send us, your trip requests and receipt photos, so we can save places, plan days and split costs.
- Google: place search. Our server sends the search and, if you allowed location, roughly where you are.
- Expo: delivering push notifications.
Payments happen in the payment app you choose. Swearby never handles money or card details.
Keeping and deleting
- You can download everything we hold about you in Profile โ Settings โ Download my data.
- You can delete your account in Profile โ Delete account. That removes your profile, places, notes, photos, trips you host, lists, follows and texts we've kept. Things that are also other people's records, such as your share of a cost on someone else's trip or a text already sent to them, can remain with them.
- Server logs are kept for a short time to keep Swearby running and are then deleted.
Children
Swearby isn't meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data. If you think a child has signed up, contact us and we'll delete the account.
Changes and contact
If this policy changes in a way that matters, we'll tell you in the app before it applies. Questions, or a request to see or delete your data: Email hello@swearbytravel.com and a person will answer, usually within two working days.
