Best time to visit Johor Bahru
• a note or something on ✦ an occasion worth the trip
Northeast monsoon, the wettest months, with rough Desaru seas and the least reliable firefly and island boats.
Among the drier months and the best to visit, with Chingay and Chinese New Year filling the centre.
Ramadan in 2027 brings bazaars and night eating, ending with Hari Raya Puasa around March.
Hottest months with a normal local pace between holidays, excellent on weekdays for food and sights.
Overlapping school holidays, durian season and Desaru's calmest seas, with the busiest family attractions.
The quiet shoulder, September especially, before October rain builds toward the monsoon.
School holidays push weekend crowds and prices sharply up even as the monsoon rain falls.

- Take Grab door to door after dark around the CIQ fringe, Larkin and the emptied old town late at night.
- At Desaru respect red flags and rough monsoon seas, because currents there have a bad record.
- Emergency number in Malaysia is 999.
Johor Bahru travel tips: tourist traps to skip
- City Square prices carry a border premium, so make big purchases at Southkey or AEON malls further in.
- Seafood by weight must be priced before cooking, everywhere on the Senibong and Teluk Jawa coast.
- Do not try Legoland, Southkey, KSL and an old-town dinner in one Saturday, the traffic will eat the plan.
- Forest City day trips and a Johor Premium Outlets run on a short trip both disappoint on time value.
Getting around Johor Bahru: public transport and more
- Cross the Causeway off-peak if you can, and never plan a tight connection beyond a Friday or Sunday evening crossing.
- Use the KTM Shuttle Tebrau train while it lasts, booking peak tickets days ahead, or Causeway buses off-peak.
- Grab is the default inside JB, cheap in the centre and east, thinner late at night in outlying areas.
- The RTS Link is not open yet, passenger service is now targeted for February 2027, so plan on the Causeway, buses and the shuttle train.
