Antsiranana travel tips: tourist traps to skip
- Treating Ankarana as an easy day trip means a pre-dawn start and a return after dark on a poor road.
- Assuming a luxury tier exists in town: the top end is Grand Hotel Diego and Allamanda level only.
- Relying on cards or a single ATM: low withdrawal limits and cash-only parks, boats and taxis are normal.
Getting around Antsiranana: public transport and more
- Fly Antananarivo to Arrachart Airport, about 1 hour 30 minutes, and never book a same-day international connection.
- Ramena is 18 to 20 km east on the N59b, about 20 to 30 minutes by taxi.
- The RN6 runs 706 km south to Ambondromamy, paved with unpaved sections in very bad shape, a multi-day drive.
