Best months: cool, dry winter with birds on the lakes and every excursion on the table.
Transitional and often still humid, but Durga Puja makes October the biggest cultural month.
Workable shoulder month but heating up fast.
Hot, with Garia Puja and the Ashokastami Mela at Unakoti as compensations.
Monsoon: intense rain and humidity, the Unakoti road turns very poor and Chabimura landings are slippery.

Central Agartala and Palace Compound
walking the sights
Ujjayanta Palace, the museum, temples, bazaars and restaurants are walkable, at the cost of daytime congestion.
Airport Road
early flights and business
Quieter strip toward the airport anchored by Ginger, but nothing to walk to in the evening.
Think twice about
- Far highway lodges beyond the airport or toward Bishalgarh
No saving over the centre and every evening is lost to travel, with few restaurants nearby.
- Immediate motor stand and bus stand lanes
Transport churn from early morning makes it the worst base for light sleepers, a noise issue not a safety one.

- Avoid the Unakoti road and Chabimura landings in the June to September monsoon.

Agartala travel tips: tourist traps to skip
- Unakoti sold as a day trip means five to six hours each way in a car and a rushed site visit.
- Neermahal at midday on a holiday weekend brings full boats and a timed visit, so go on a weekday morning.
- Small restaurant listings go stale fast, so confirm a specific table before crossing town.
- Do not combine Dumboor, Chabimura and Udaipur in one day, as the distances make it a windscreen tour.
Getting around Agartala: public transport and more
- Fly into Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport about 12 km from the centre and budget 30 to 45 minutes for the drive.
- Use autos and cycle rickshaws for city hops and walk the Palace Compound once based centrally.
- Hire a car and driver by the day for Neermahal, Sepahijala, Udaipur, Kamalasagar and Chabimura.
- Use the train toward Kumarghat for the Unakoti overnight, then a taxi for the final stretch.
- Carry cash in small notes for boats, park entries, small eateries and rural taxis.
