- Never enter a wadi if rain is forecast in the mountains, even if Sohar itself is sunny.
- Cover shoulders and knees in public, carry a scarf for mosque visits, and use swimwear only at hotel pools and beaches.

Sohar travel tips: tourist traps to skip
- Do not build a trip around Sohar malls or its cinema, which are heat escapes, not sights.
- There is no daily public dhow cruise or walk in dive shop in Sohar, so check any guaranteed departure carefully.
- The public beach is a local beach without resort facilities, shade or lifeguards.
- Wakan Village is a full long mountain day from Sohar, not a quick detour.
Getting around Sohar: public transport and more
- You need a car or a driver, as sights are spread along the coast and highway and city buses are limited.
- Muscat is about 200 to 230 km south, roughly 2 to 2.5 hours by car and about 3 hours by Mwasalat bus.
- Agree taxi fares in advance or use a hotel arranged car, and keep small OMR notes.
- Sohar Airport has limited services, so do not build a tight itinerary on a Sohar flight.
