Where to stay in Jebel Akhdar
Canyon rim by Diana's Point and Al Aqur
luxury, views and walks from the door
The rim strip holding the Alila, Anantara, Indigo and Sahab, with canyon views and resort prices.
Saiq and Saih Qatna
mid range value and local restaurants
The plateau's working settlements, holding the mid range hotels, apartments and Layali Al Jabal.
Al Suwgra village
quiet heritage nights for walkers
The restored cliff village itself, reached by a steep side road and a foot trail, with one family run stay.
Birkat Al Mouz, foot of the mountain
cheap fallback and late arrivals
Palms and a ruined old town below the checkpoint, cheap and charming, but every plateau day needs a 4WD plan.
Think twice about
- Birkat Al Mouz as a full plateau base without a 4WD plan
It is below the police checkpoint, so every day on the plateau depends on a hired 4WD or transfer you have actually booked.
- Wadi beds on and below the plateau after rain
Wadi Bani Habib and the foot of mountain wadis are flood channels. Rain upstream can flood them with no local warning.
- Planted terraces and fragile ruins at Wadi Bani Habib
Terraces are working farms and the abandoned houses are fragile. Stay on paths, do not climb walls or roofs.

Getting around Jebel Akhdar: public transport and more
- Access is 4WD or AWD only past the police checkpoint above Birkat Al Mouz, with licence and car registration checked.
