Things to do in Musandam
And where to stay, the best time to visit, what a day costs, and the traps to skip.
Best time to visit Musandam
• a note or something on ✦ an occasion worth the trip
Winter is the best season, with daytime temperatures in the low to mid 20s Celsius, calm seas and peak demand.
Shoulder months are warm to hot, good value in late October and March, with mountain trips best taken early.
Summer is extreme heat and humidity into the 40s Celsius, with outdoor sightseeing limited to early mornings and the water.
Rare heavy rain in this window can cause flash floods in wadis and close the mountain road.

Musandam travel tips: tourist traps to skip
- Do not arrive at the border in a UAE rental car your contract forbids taking into Oman.
- Do not try to reach Khasab from the Dibba side as a non GCC traveller, and do not assume a Muscat flight or ferry exists on your date.
- Do not schedule the full day dhow and a same day drive back to Dubai in summer heat.
Getting around Musandam: public transport and more
- Most visitors drive from Dubai in about 3 hours via Ras Al Khaimah to the Al Darah and Tibat crossing, then the Khasab Coastal Road.
- Without your own car, tour by hotel or operator pickup for the dhow, mountain safari and city tour, as there is no touring public transport.
- Take the operator 4x4 for the upper Jebel Harim road and download offline maps before the border.
