Things to do in Naha
And where to stay, the best time to visit, what a day costs, and the traps to skip.
Best time to visit Naha
• a note or something on ✦ an occasion worth the trip
Best window overall, warm sea, falling typhoon risk and the tug of war and Shurijo festivals.
Second best window, warming seas and comfortable walking weather before Golden Week prices.
Rainy season from May to mid June, hot and wet with rough seas, late June improves sharply.
Peak sea and eisa season but typhoon, jellyfish and heat risk are highest, August is worst for a first trip.
Quiet and cheaper, whales and early cherry blossom, swimming is wetsuit only for most people.

Think twice about
- Matsuyama
Naha largest hostess bar and nightlife district. Touts, noise until very late and inflated bill bar pitches. Sleep ten minutes away instead.
- Oroku and Akamine airport fringe
Big box stores, parking lots and aircraft noise south of downtown. Rational for one late arrival night, a false economy as a multi night base.
- Senaga Island
Good onsen and sunset terrace but isolated by the airport at night with few restaurants and a taxi ride to every Naha sight.
- Tomigusuku and Itoman southern suburbs without a car
Cheaper rooms but infrequent buses and thin evening dining strand car free visitors far from Naha restaurants and sights.
