Where to stay in Mecca
Central Haram and Abraj Al Bait
first Umrah, elderly pilgrims, shortest stays
Minutes on foot to prayer at any hour, at the city's highest prices and densest crowds.
Jabal Omar
repeat visitors, comfort a step back
Newer five stars a five to ten minute walk from the Haram, slightly cheaper and calmer than the front row.

Older hotels and pilgrim restaurants at a fraction of tower prices, still walkable to the Haram.
Al Aziziyah
budget trips, large family groups, long stays
Large cheap hotels several kilometres east, with shuttle buses for every prayer trip.
Think twice about
- Listings claiming near Haram with no street or distance
The phrase can mean 200 metres or 8 kilometres. Check the map pin and shuttle arrangement in writing before paying.
- Far southern and highway fringe districts
No pilgrim infrastructure or restaurant streets, and a taxi negotiation for every prayer. The saving is spent on transport.
- Mina outside Hajj
The tent city is Hajj infrastructure allocated to pilgrims by package, not a neighbourhood with visitor lodging.
