Things to do in Dammam
And where to stay, the best time to visit, what a day costs, and the traps to skip.
Best time to visit Dammam
• a note or something on ✦ an occasion worth the trip
Best season, with daytime highs in the high teens to high twenties and cool Corniche evenings.
Shoulder months, October improving and April warming fast, good value with early and late outdoor time.
Hinge months, hot and increasingly humid, with sightseeing compressed to mornings and evenings.
Worst months, regularly above 40 degrees with heavy humidity, so build the trip indoors and at night.

Is Dammam safe?
- Crime is low and the Corniches are family busy late, so take the heat more seriously than people.
- In summer, sightsee early and after sunset, hydrate constantly and treat shade and air conditioning as safety.
- Dress modestly in public, never photograph people without permission, and note alcohol is prohibited everywhere.
- The emergency number is 911.
Dammam travel tips: tourist traps to skip
- Dolphin Village is for young children, and an over sold stop for adults without them.
- Marjan Island at midday is exposed and underwhelming, while the same island at sunset is lovely.
- Do not build a day around a mall, and do not judge the metro by staying in only one of its three cities.
- At Heritage Village, go for the museum and setting rather than the food alone.
Getting around Dammam: public transport and more
- Rent a car at the airport for Half Moon Bay, Tarout or Al-Ahsa, and use Careem and Uber inside the three cities.
- Dammam to Khobar is about 20 minutes, Ithra about 15 to 20 minutes, and Al-Ahsa about 1.5 to 2 hours.
- The Dammam to Riyadh train takes about three and a half to four hours and is the one public transport win.
- Cross to Bahrain early, because causeway traffic backs up badly on Thursday afternoons and weekends.
