• a note or something on ✦ an occasion worth the trip

Best things to do in Jubail
Al Fanateer Beach
The showcase Royal Commission waterfront, with lawns, palms and a calm sandy Gulf beach made for sunset walks.
Al Nakheel Beach Park
A grassy beach park with shade trees, barbecue spots and a promenade, and the best sunrise in the city.
Deffi Park
The residents park, with deep shade, big lawns, play areas and permanent barbecue stands for weekend grills.
Aqua Park
A modest family water park with slides and pools, the counter programme to a hot beach morning with kids.
Al Jubail Fish Market
The working old town fish market, where you buy the Gulf catch and have it grilled for the freshest cheap meal.
Al Tawiya Tower
The 1928 stone tower that guarded the well Jubail depended on, and the one historic monument left in the city.
Galleria Mall
Fanateer's modern indoor high street, for the hot afternoon dead zone, supermarket runs and evening dining.
Jubail Corniche
The old town working waterfront by the fishing harbour, scruffier and more everyday than Fanateer.
Where to stay in Jubail
Fanateer and Al Huwailat
leisure stays and families
The waterfront districts by the corniche, mall and marina, with the resort and beaches on foot.
Jalmudah and Deerah
work trips and longer stays
Quiet newer residential districts with the mid range business hotels, a short drive from the beach.
Jubail Balad
budget and local stays
The old town, with the fish market and cheap food at Balad prices and a denser, older atmosphere.
Think twice about
- Heavy industrial and port fringe at Al Sinaiyah
Truck and contractor surroundings of yards and highway, nothing to walk to and port air and noise. Sleep in Fanateer or Jalmudah instead.
- Highway strip between Balad and Dammam
Near city prices to sleep beside a motorway, with a drive for every coffee. Base inside either city instead.
- Densest bachelor worker blocks of inner Balad as a family base
Contested parking, older buildings and no family facilities. Not a safety issue, but a family expecting Fanateer will feel in the wrong city.

Jubail travel tips: tourist traps to skip
- The Jubail Church ruin is fenced and not visitable. Do not plan around it.
- Fanateer Mall reviews poorly beside Galleria. Shop and eat at Galleria instead.
- Midday beach plans from April to October are a trap of your own making.
- Any source selling Jubail nightlife is selling a different city. Evenings are corniche, mall, coffee and dinner.
Getting around Jubail: public transport and more
- You need a car. Districts are kilometres apart and the city was not designed to be walked between districts.
- Fly into King Fahd International Airport in Dammam and allow 60 to 90 minutes by road to Jubail.
- Drive defensively and avoid the Dammam highway at weekend changeover peaks.
- Within Fanateer, evenings on foot are a pleasure. Everywhere else, drive and park.
