Things to do in Agde
And where to stay, the best time to visit, what a day costs, and the traps to skip.
Best time to visit Agde
• a note or something on ✦ an occasion worth the trip
Best months: warm sea, everything open, festivals on, crowds and prices below the August peak.
Excellent for heritage, cycling, golf and the Bagnas, plus Vinocap, with a still fresh sea.
Full summer: hottest, busiest and most expensive, the only months the full resort machine runs.
Pleasant but patchy shoulder season, with some Cap businesses still or already closed.
Worst for a Cap based holiday: the resort is near dead. Base in Agde town for heritage, golf and winter walking.
What's on
- Vinocap Ascension weekend
The largest open air wine fair in the south of France, on the quays of Cap d'Agde.
- Fête de la Mer et des Pêcheurs July
The fishermen's festival at Le Grau d'Agde, with boats, music and grilled fish.
- Les Brescoudos early September
A major Harley Davidson and biker gathering centred on the Cap, lively and loud.
- Hérault du Cinéma et de la TV traditionally June
Agde's film and TV festival, reported as cancelled in its previous form and being reinvented. Check the current programme.
- Salon Nautique d'Automne late October to early November
The autumn boat show at the port, a niche draw for sailors as the season closes.

Where to stay in Agde
Port and Centre, Cap d'Agde
first Cap stay, marina life, easiest all round base
Flat walking, the widest choice of in season restaurants, boats from the quay and the golf quarter just inland.
Richelieu and Rochelongue
families who want the big sandy beach on the doorstep
Apartment country along the main family beaches, lively in peak season and the emptiest part of the Cap in winter.
Historic Agde town
year round stays, heritage, touring by train
Black stone lanes, the cathedral, locals' restaurants and the station, with the beach ten minutes away by bus or car.
Le Grau d'Agde and La Tamarissière
quiet coast, walkers, birders and repeat visitors
A working fishing port, fish restaurants and a pine forest coast, the least resort like part of Agde.
Inside the Naturist Village
naturists only, for whom naturism is the point of the trip
A gated self contained village with its own beach and nightlife, entered only with an access card and ID.
Think twice about
- Cap centre and Richelieu Rochelongue strips in winter
Not unsafe, but shuttered, unlit in places and desolate once the season closes. Base in Agde town instead from November to March.
- Les Sept Fonts artisanal zone
Charmless and car dependent for sleeping, with nothing to walk to at night. Go there for lunch at La Table de Stéphane, not to stay.
- Inside the Naturist Village, if naturism is not your choice
Accommodation inside the gates follows naturist rules in all shared spaces. Booking it by mistake for price or availability ruins the holiday.
