Things to do in Pleiku
And where to stay, the best time to visit, what a day costs, and the traps to skip.
Best time to visit Pleiku
• a note or something on ✦ an occasion worth the trip
Best window: dry roads, cool mornings, wild sunflowers in November and coffee blossom in February to March.
Still dry but the hottest and dustiest month, with waterfalls at their thinnest.
Wet season: greenest plateau and stronger waterfalls, but showers make countryside days unpredictable.
Wettest months and the worst window for the headline trip, unless full power waterfalls are the goal.
What's on
- Wild Sunflower Week - Chu Dang Ya Volcano early to mid November
Golden sunflower bloom with gong performances, dance, weaving and a half marathon in recent editions.
- Jrai New Rice Ceremony November, within Sunflower Week
Harvest thanksgiving rite re-created at the Ia Gri rong house with gong ensembles.
- Central Highlands Gong Culture Festival festival years, often November in Gia Lai
Massed gong ensembles and dance; dates rotate by year and host, so check before planning around it.
- Tet late January to February
Lunar New Year: flower markets and family festivities, with small businesses closed and transport full.

Where to stay in Pleiku
City Centre
first trip, all-round base
Walkable to the square, museum, best restaurants and cafes, with the flagship and boutique hotels.
Bien Ho and Tra Da
countryside mornings
Farmstays among tea, coffee and pines near the lake, quiet at dawn but ride dependent for dinner.
Airport and Le Duan corridor
early flights and transit only
Functional hotels near the airport with thinner dining, so leisure trips should base in the centre.
Think twice about
- Le Duan airport corridor as a leisure base
Highway feel and thin dining mean you ride into the centre for everything. It is a logistics issue, not a safety one.
- Isolated countryside stays without wheels
Roads back from Bien Ho are dark and unlit at night with no dining nearby. Stay there only with a motorbike or driver.

- Camp Holloway has almost nothing left to see and is only meaningful for veterans who served there.
- The Bien Ho tea fields are now substantially coffee, so do not buy a guaranteed endless tea tour.
- Chu Dang Ya photos are season specific, and Dong Xanh Park is a family park, not an adult sight.
Getting around Pleiku: public transport and more
- The centre is walkable for the square, museum and restaurant cluster.
- Rent a motorbike for about 100000 to 200000 VND a day, or hire a car with driver for the volcano, lake and Kon Tum days.
- Grab and taxis cover city hops and the airport about 4 to 6 km from the centre.
- Carry small cash, as pho shops, markets, parking and many cafes are cash first.
