Best time to visit Ha Tien
• a note or something on ✦ an occasion worth the trip
Dry season sweet spot, calmer seas, reliable ferries and the clearest sunsets.
Shoulder month, the rains tail off, the sea settles and the town is quiet.
Late April into May is dry but seriously hot by midday, so sightsee at dawn and dusk.
Wet season, but also ca xiu season in Dong Ho, when the fermented mud fish is freshest.
Typically the wettest months, with rough crossings and occasional ferry cancellations.

Ha Tien Market

Rows of open air seafood and snack stalls where the whole town eats dinner, ideal for grazing and people watching.
Where to stay in Ha Tien
Riverfront Centre
first trip, all-round base
Walk to the market, tombs and pagodas, close to the ferry offices, lit and full of food until late.
Phao Dai
newer rooms, pool and a quiet night
Wider newer streets by the night market and the sea side of town, a longer walk to the old pagodas.
Mui Nai Beach
beach-first stays only
Dawn swims and sunset dinners on the sand, but 5 to 6 km of dark road from the centre and the ferries.
Think twice about
- Xa Xia border gate strip
Casinos, truck traffic and touts, with nothing of the town in walking distance. Sleep in the centre, 7 km away.
- Mui Nai Beach as a first-trip base
Pretty mornings, but a dark empty road at night, thin services and a logistics problem for every early ferry.
- Rural roads toward Da Dung and Hon Chong after dark
Sparse lighting, livestock and unlit vehicles make these daytime roads. Ride them before dark.
