Things to do in Gondar
And where to stay, the best time to visit, what a day costs, and the traps to skip.
Best time to visit Gondar
• a note or something on ✦ an occasion worth the trip
Best overall. Dry, green after the rains, clear Simien views and strong waterfalls.
Peak dry season and Timket in January. Clearest weather, coldest nights, highest demand.
Still good but dustier and hotter as the dry season wears on.
Shoulder. Small rains or late rains, fewer visitors, less reliable mountain views.
Worst. Main rains, mud, clouded Simien views, slippery treks and difficult rural roads.
What's on
- Timket 19 January
Ethiopian Epiphany at Fasilides Bath, with tabot processions, an all night vigil and a dawn blessing of the pool.
- Meskel 27 September
