Chiatura travel tips: tourist traps to skip
- Outdated itineraries promising rides on the rusting Soviet cabins, Pioneer Palace entry or a dozen working old lines describe the pre-2021 town.
- Thick fog can erase both the cable car views and Katskhi Pillar: pick a clear day.
- Chiatura from Tbilisi by public transport is a long full day, not a half-day side trip.
Getting around Chiatura: public transport and more
- Marshrutka from Kutaisi Central Bus Station roughly hourly 8am to 4pm, about 10 GEL and 2 hours, with the last return van reported around 3pm.
- The Kutaisi to Sachkhere train via Chiatura is once daily, about 3.5 hours and seasonal, and sources conflict on whether it runs: never build the plan on it.
- Walk the centre, ride the cable cars for the hills, re-check municipal bus 2 to Katskhi and bus 3 to Sachkhere at the Central Cable Car Station desk.
- Agree taxi prices before setting off, and show a photo of Katskhi Pillar to a marshrutka driver if you want to be dropped there.
