Wodonga travel tips: tourist traps to skip
- Treating Wodonga as a walkable city break. Plan two nodes a day with a car instead.
- Planning a spontaneous 9pm dinner crawl. The centre empties early, so eat by 7.30pm or cross to Albury.
- Visiting Gateway Island on a quiet weekday between market Saturdays and performance nights.
- Assuming Albury sights are in Wodonga. MAMA and the Botanic Gardens are across the river.
- Visiting Lake Hume without checking water level, algae advice and fly conditions.
Getting around Wodonga: public transport and more
- You need a car. Sights sit in separate nodes five to twenty minutes apart and buses serve residents, not sightseeing.
- Albury Dean Street is about ten minutes drive across the river. Parking in Wodonga is easy and mostly free.
- Albury Airport is about 15 minutes away. Melbourne is about 330 kilometres via the Hume Freeway.
- Cycling works well here. Parkland trails link the centre, Belvoir Park, Gateway Island and the Wagirra Trail.
- Rideshare is thin outside the centre. Pre arrange transfers, especially from the rail trail.
