Think twice about
- Ruapehu crater lake summit area and lahar paths
Stay out of the crater lake area, do not camp near it or in valley floors on lahar paths, and follow lahar warnings at once.
- Mangatepopo and Ketetahi trailhead car parks for all day or overnight parking
Four hour limits in season, fines and tow risk, and a historic theft problem. Use a village base and a shuttle instead.
- Mount Ngauruhoe summit
Ngati Tuwharetoa and DOC ask visitors not to climb the sacred summit. View the cone from the Crossing or Tama Saddle.
