Things to do in Sreemangal
And where to stay, the best time to visit, what a day costs, and the traps to skip.
Best time to visit Sreemangal
• a note or something on ✦ an occasion worth the trip
Winter is the season to come: dry and cool, Baikka Beel holds its winter birds, trails are dry, and nights can fall to about 10 degrees.
Hot bright shoulder season with spring plucking, afternoon storms from March, and the winter birds gone by the end of March.
Monsoon in one of the rainiest towns in Bangladesh: flooding risk, impassable tracks, dangerous Hum Hum streams and peak leeches.
The green hinge month as rains ease, still muddy early on, with Durga Puja crowds around festival sites, usually in October.

Think twice about
- Chittagong Hill Tracts
Not near Sreemangal, but often added to Bangladesh itineraries: a restricted hill region with a history of unrest; do not add it to a trip.
- Forest and estate roads after dark
Unlit rural roads and active forest trails are not a night activity here. Finish Lawachara, lake and wetland days before nightfall.

Sreemangal travel tips: tourist traps to skip
- Seven layer tea sold as the original anywhere other than Adi Nilkantha in Manipuri Para.
- A one day Dhaka dash claiming Lawachara, Madhabpur, Baikka Beel and Hum Hum together: the distances make it impossible.
- Visiting the Tea Museum without checking it is open that day through your hotel.
- Lawachara at midday on a weekend, hot and crowded, sold as a wildlife experience.
Getting around Sreemangal: public transport and more
- Trains on the Dhaka to Sylhet line stop at Sreemangal station and take roughly 4 to 6 hours from Dhaka.
- Hire CNG auto-rickshaws by the day and agree the fare, waiting time and return leg before you set off.
- Rent a bicycle through a guesthouse for early rides between the tea gardens around Radhanagar and BTRI.
- Carry small taka notes in cash: cards work at the big resorts and almost nowhere else.
