Things to do in Ras Al Khaimah
And where to stay, the best time to visit, what a day costs, and the traps to skip.
Best time to visit Ras Al Khaimah
• a note or something on ✦ an occasion worth the trip
Best weather: warm coast, cold clear mountains, hiking and every major event.
Good shoulder months: hotter, cheaper, hiking resumes in October and ends in April.
Worst months: 40 to 48 degrees with humidity, hiking unsafe, outdoor life dawn only.
Heat building fast: mountain mornings and resort pools only.

Where to stay in Ras Al Khaimah
Al Hamra Village

Beach, golf, marina dining and independent restaurants, with every sight reachable by car.
Al Marjan Island
resort-first beach holiday
Big beach resorts and a long promenade, but little to walk to and major Wynn construction.
Mina Al Arab
quiet luxury, couples
Low density lagoons and mangroves, calmer and greener than Marjan Island.
Al Wadi Desert
desert splurge, one or two nights
Pool villas in a protected reserve with oryx, falconry and the emirate best resort dining.
Al Dhaith and the Cove
north coast, pearl farm and Dhayah
A cove resort base closer to the heritage north than to Al Hamra and Marjan.
Ras Al Khaimah City
budget, hiking and heritage trips with a car
Cheapest beds, local restaurants, museum and Corniche, but no resort beach.
Think twice about
- Industrial and warehouse fringes inland
Nothing walkable, no beach and only workers canteens and highway stops. Not unsafe, just a bad holiday base.
- Far north beyond Al Rams
Beautiful and safe but almost no visitor lodging or dining, an hour from resorts and golf.
- Jebel Jais as a base
No hotel on the mountain apart from camp programmes. Any listing implying one should be treated with suspicion.
- Wynn construction facing rooms on Al Marjan Island
Work is vast and ongoing. Ask which side of the hotel your room faces before paying a sea view premium.

Is Ras Al Khaimah safe?
- Heat is the main risk: hike October to March, start at dawn and carry litres of water.
- Wadi flash flooding after rain upstream is a lethal risk. Turn back if weather threatens.
- Alcohol only in licensed venues; public drunkenness is an offence. Emergency number is 999.
- Dress modestly away from beaches and pools, and at heritage and religious sites.
Ras Al Khaimah travel tips: tourist traps to skip
- Sea view premiums for rooms facing the Wynn construction site on Marjan Island.
- All inclusive lock in: price room only plus two real dinners before committing.
- Malls listed as attractions, and generic desert safaris that do not name the camp.
- Midday outings from May to September, when heat makes forts and wadis hazardous.
Getting around Ras Al Khaimah: public transport and more
- Hire a car: sights are strung along about 60 km of coast and inland roads, with no metro.
- Taxis are plentiful, metered and safe via Hala and Careem, but a full day costs more than a hire car.
- From Dubai allow 60 to 90 minutes to the resorts and 45 to 60 more up Jebel Jais.
- Download offline maps for Jebel Jais and the wadis, where coverage is patchy.
