Things to do in Hatta
And where to stay, the best time to visit, what a day costs, and the traps to skip.
Best time to visit Hatta
• a note or something on ✦ an occasion worth the trip
The season: daytime highs in the low to high 20s C, cold nights, trails and dam at their best and the winter festival calendar.
Shoulder months warming fast from about 30C toward the high 30s; dawn starts for trails, and the resorts season still runs into this window.
Extreme summer: highs of about 38 to 44C, glamping closed, Wadi Hub and kayak hours reduced or split around the heat.
The turn: the new Hatta Resorts season opens in late September, heat breaks through October and late October nears winter conditions.

Where to stay in Hatta
Hatta Wadi Hub and Sufayri
glamping and waking up at the trailhead
Domes, lodges, trailers and caravan resorts cluster by the activity park, a short drive from the dam, with town a drive away.
Hatta town
value, the heritage side and arriving by bus
The guesthouse and farm stay, the Heritage Village, Hill Park, town restaurants and the bus station are all here.
JA resort grounds, Hatta Oman Road
a full service hotel stay, open all year
One resort hotel with pools, restaurants and a spa, about 10 minutes by car from the Heritage Village and 12 from the dam.
Think twice about
- The Omani side of the Hatta to Al Wajajah border
A separate country, not part of a Hatta stay: crossing needs passports, the right visas and a car permitted and insured for Oman.
- Wadi beds and low wadi crossings as camping or parking spots
Mountain rain can send flash floods down wadis with little warning, so never camp, park or picnic in a wadi bed.
- The dam and Wadi Hub fringe as a no-car summer base
Glamping is closed in summer, operator hours shrink, and town food and the bus station are a drive away in serious heat.

Is Hatta safe?
- Heat is the main risk: summer highs reach about 38 to 44C, so hike at dawn, carry water and treat dizziness seriously. Emergency number is 999.
- Never camp in a wadi bed or drive through flowing wadi water after mountain rain, because of flash flood risk.
- The regional situation is unpredictable, with a risk of attacks and escalation across the region and possible flight cancellations, airspace closures and travel disruption.
- Alcohol is served only in licensed venues, in practice the JA hotel, the drinking age is 21, and being drunk in public is an offence.
Hatta travel tips: tourist traps to skip
- Following a shortest route setting onto the E44 via Al Madam if you are non-GCC: the Oman wedge checkpoint can turn you back.
- Budgeting on the 2018 Sedr Trailers from-rate of AED 250: trailer stock, names and prices at Hatta Resorts have changed since.
- Planning a summer trail trip at midday, or counting on paragliding, which has no reliable operator, price or schedule.
Getting around Hatta: public transport and more
- About 130 to 135 km from Dubai, 90 minutes to two hours by car: non-GCC visitors use the E102 Sharjah to Kalba road and the signed Hatta turn, not the E44 via Al Madam.
- The RTA H02 Hatta Express runs from Dubai Mall bus station to Hatta for about AED 25 each way, with a hop-on hop-off bus inside Hatta for about AED 2 per stop.
- Carry passport or Emirates ID, fuel up before the mountain section, and download offline maps because signal is patchy.
