Things to do in Maafushi
And where to stay, the best time to visit, what a day costs, and the traps to skip.
Best time to visit Maafushi
• a note or something on ✦ an occasion worth the trip
Northeast monsoon dry season, best weather, calmest seas and best visibility, with January to March best and February driest.
Shoulder months, transition weather, thinner crowds and mid prices, late April and late November are the value picks.
Southwest monsoon wet season, heavier rain and rougher boat rides, lower room rates and a quieter island in exchange.

The village quiets by day with reduced cafe hours and livens after sunset, guesthouse restaurants still feed guests.
- Independence Day 26 July

- A room beside an active building site
New guesthouse blocks rise every year and any hotel can gain a site next door. Check the newest reviews for your property plus the word construction.

Is Maafushi safe?

- The sea is the main risk, strong changing currents, snorkel with a buddy, wear the life jacket offered and stay clear of propellers.
- Crime against visitors is uncommon, use the hotel safe and keep the beach bag minimal.
Maafushi travel tips: tourist traps to skip
- Excursion touting at the harbour and beach strip, compare two or three desks and confirm inclusions and group size before paying.
- Some hotels imply you may only book excursions at their own desk, independent operators can take you and often charge less.
- Confirm whether the floating bar shuttle boat is free before boarding, reports of a 10 dollar per person transfer exist.
- Headline room rates exclude taxes and the nightly green tax, price the whole stay before comparing properties.

- Shared speedboats run Male and the airport to Maafushi many times daily in about 35 to 45 minutes for around 20 to 25 dollars one way.
