- Limburg is a safe, prosperous small town with a busy lit centre. Ordinary awareness is sufficient.
- Watch cobbles and steep lanes in rain or ice, especially on the Domberg and the cathedral rock stairs after dark.
- On the Lahn, use life jackets for children and obey operators on water levels. Swim only where it is established practice.
- Emergency number is 112.
Limburg an der Lahn travel tips: tourist traps to skip
- Limburger cheese is not from this Limburg. It is named for the Belgian duchy and no local cheese experience exists.
- Burg Limburg is usually locked outside open days and tours. The terrace view is the reliable part of the visit.
- The WERKStadt is a shopping centre by the station, not a sight, whatever aggregator rankings suggest.
- Do not expect a Rhine resort town. Limburg is a working diocesan town and its charm is exactly that scale.
Getting around Limburg an der Lahn: public transport and more
- Limburg (Lahn) station is in town. Limburg Süd is the ICE only station about 2 km south, so use the station bus or LahnStar shuttle.
- ICE trains run about 35 minutes to Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof and about an hour toward Cologne, with airport trains about every two hours.
- Walk the car free Altstadt. Everything in town sits within about a 15 minute radius, on cobbles with a Domberg climb.
- Use the Lahntalbahn for Runkel, Weilburg, Diez and Bad Ems. It runs parallel to the cycle path and canoe river.
- Park on the old town rim and walk in. Driving into the pedestrian lanes is a fine, not a shortcut.
