Best time to visit Labuan Bajo

Shoulder sweet spots. April is green after the wet season, October has superb visibility before rains build.
Wet season, worst January February. Rough seas, cancellations and slippery waterfall tracks, but peak southern mantas.

Is Labuan Bajo safe?
- Stay with the mandatory ranger near dragons, keep distance and carry no loose food.
- Currents are the main water risk. Wear life jackets on drift snorkels, stay with guides and never touch coral.
- Health care is thin, Siloam stabilises and serious cases evacuate to Bali. Diving and evacuation insurance is essential.
- Crime is low. Watch bags at the market and harbour and avoid unlit hill roads late at night.
Labuan Bajo travel tips: tourist traps to skip
- Do not make a one day six stop speedboat your only Komodo experience if the park is the reason for the trip.
- Do not book a boat on price alone. Compare what is included, park fees, ranger fees, gear, lunch and transfers, in writing.
- Skip the whale shark add on, which involves fishermen feeding whale sharks while travellers crowd them.
- No good town beach exists. Beaches are on the islands and at Waecicu and Seraya resorts.
Getting around Labuan Bajo: public transport and more
- Fly into Komodo Airport, 15 minutes from harbour. Walk the core in 20 to 30 minutes, use Grab or Gojek for hills and Pede or Waecicu.
- Arrive the day before your boat and keep a buffer day after a liveaboard. WhatsApp is how drivers, boats and hotels reply fastest.
- Carry cash in IDR for park fees, markets, warungs and tips. Cards work at resorts, smart restaurants and dive shops.
