Is Goiânia safe?
- Base in Marista, Bueno, Oeste or Jardim Goiás and use normal big city awareness there.
- Visit Centro by day and avoid walking there after dark or basing there on a leisure trip.
- Keep phone and wallet front and secure in feira crowds, especially the Feira Hippie.
- Use repellent at dawn and dusk in parks and waterfall country because dengue occurs in Goiás.
Goiânia travel tips: tourist traps to skip
- Do not spend the trip inside malls, one Flamboyant session for food or rain cover is enough.
- Do not plan dinner in the centre, it is a morning destination and empties at night.
- Never bite a pequi pit, scrape the flesh off carefully because the pit has fine spines.
- Do not combine Pirenópolis and Goiás Velho in one day and do not treat Chapada dos Veadeiros as a day trip.
Getting around Goiânia: public transport and more
- Use Uber and 99 rideshares for almost everything, they are cheap and solve heat and distance between sectors.
- Walk inside a sector such as Marista or the centre in the morning, not between sectors on arterial avenues.
- Rent a car only for Pirenópolis, Goiás Velho or Caldas Novas and download offline maps before dirt roads.
- Carry small cash notes for feiras where card queues are slow and Pix needs a Brazilian account.
