Things to do in Taichung

Great-value bowls, Japanese-era parks, and a yakitori dinner worth saving for.

This is Taichung at its most straightforward: good coffee, serious noodles, free culture, and one or two dinners that justify the trip. It works best for travellers who want to eat and walk like a local rather than tick landmarks, and who would rather spend their money on a proper yakitori counter than a fancy hotel room.
