Cheap things to do in Santorini
Caldera views, craft beer and taverna plates without blowing the budget.
This is Santorini stripped of the champagne-at-sunset nonsense: factory museums, pumice beaches, medieval alleyways and a ferry to a nearly empty island. It suits anyone who wants to actually see the place rather than pay for the Instagram version of it.
Day 1: South Coast: Factories and Cliffs
A morning in a genuine 1920s tomato-paste factory leads to a clifftop winery terrace, a free swim at Vlychada's lunar beach, and a cheap taverna dinner before losing yourself in Emporio's medieval lanes.
- 10:15 AM
Tomato Industrial Museum, D.Nomikos
Quirky, low-cost museum in a genuine 1920s tomato-paste factory, one of Santorini's most unique and affordable culture stops.

Venetsanos Winery
Historic 1947 gravity-built winery above Athinios port with spectacular caldera terrace.
Map - 2:30 PM
Vlychada beach
Dramatic pumice-cliff beach a short walk from the Tomato Museum, free, quieter than the main beaches, great for a swim and a wander.

Lava Tavern
A family taverna in Perissa where you pick from the day's pots in the kitchen; get the tomato fritters.
Map - 9:30 PM
Emporio
Wander the medieval kasteli alleyways of Emporio at night and find a local bar tucked inside, cheap, authentic, zero tourist gloss.

Day 2: Fira, Firostefani and a Local Night
Walk the caldera rim for free, see the Akrotiri frescoes, then work through honest Greek cooking and local craft beer.
- 10:30 AM
Fira Museums + Firostefani rim walk
Walk the Firostefani rim and duck into the museum housing the famous Akrotiri frescoes, the three-bell church views are free.

Roza's
A garden taverna in the inland village of Vourvoulos, away from the rim crowds; order whatever is grilled.
Map - 7:30 PM
Aktaion Restaurant
A family taverna in Firostefani since the 1920s; order the moussaka and sit facing the caldera.
Map - 9:00 PM
Ftelos Brewery Santorini - MALT Restaurant
End the night at Ftelos Brewery's MALT bar, local Santorini craft beer, casual vibe, and a solid last drink before bed.

Day 3: Thirassia Day Trip and Oia at Dusk
Cross the caldera to the quieter island most visitors skip, walk volcanic paths above Korfos harbour, then return to Oia for a low-key dinner before the crowds thin out.
Where to stay
Fira Backpackers Place
The only true budget pick on the island, sitting right in Fira where Days 1 and 2 start.
Caveland
Cave-style rooms at a dollar price point, close to the south-coast stops on Day 1.

Skip these
- Oia Castle at sunset, where spots are claimed 2 hours early and lanes gridlock. Watch from Imerovigli, Firostefani or a boat instead.
- Red Beach as a swim beach, closed to bathers over landslide risk. View it from above or a boat and swim elsewhere.
- Caldera-rim restaurants chosen by view alone in Oia and Fira. Have the drink there and eat from the Eat list.
- Donkey rides up the Fira steps, and flying dress shoots that trespass on church roofs and private terraces.
