Things to do in Kanazawa
Geisha streets, market counters, and the best seafood city you haven't been to yet.
Kanazawa rewards the traveller who eats seriously and walks slowly. These three days move between a preserved castle garden, a craft beer taproom in the geisha district, and a seven-seat sushi counter where the nodoguro will ruin you for lesser fish. Come hungry, book the dinners in advance, and keep the days loose enough to linger.

Skip these
- Gold leaf ice cream is a photo, not a flavour; do not queue 30 minutes for it or count it as dessert.
- Kanazawa Castle is a reconstruction, so value the grounds, walls and gardens rather than expecting an original keep like Himeji.
- Do not queue an hour at Omicho's most photographed counter; a quieter counter one lane in has the same fish.
- Skip generic guided city tours; spend guide money only where it buys access, such as Noto, White Road or Gokayama private days.
