Things to do in Toruń
And where to stay, the best time to visit, what a day costs, and the traps to skip.
Best time to visit Toruń
• a note or something on ✦ an occasion worth the trip
Best months. Warm, long evenings, full programme, September crowds gone.
Peak. Hottest and liveliest, Bella Skyway season, book museums, dinners and hotels ahead.
Shoulder. Cooler and quieter, full Old Town, outdoor programmes thin out.
Worst months. Cold, short grey days, reduced hours and outdoor programmes paused.
Christmas market and lights are the honourable exception to the winter warning.

Is Toruń safe?
- Low crime and orderly, but watch bags in festival crowds and on packed trains.
- Take care on wet cobbles and tower stairs. The Vistula at the city reach is not a swimming river.
Toruń travel tips: tourist traps to skip
- Do not do Toruń as a 3 hour stop. The New Town, dusk panorama and second gingerbread museum need an overnight.
- Do not confuse the two gingerbread museums, and do not make Copernicus House your only museum.
Getting around Toruń: public transport and more
- Walk the centre. Almost every pick is within a 15 minute walk of the market square.
- Use Toruń Miasto on the Old Town side where your train stops there. Toruń Główny is across the river.
- Buses and trams cover the station crossing, Fort IV and Barbarka. A car only earns its keep for day trips.
