- Never turn your back on the surf at Praia do Norte and keep children in hand at viewpoints.
- Crime is low. Take normal crowd care with phones and wallets on the promenade in August.
- Atlantic sun burns through sea wind, tap water is safe, and small cash helps for tascas and the funicular.
Nazaré travel tips: tourist traps to skip
- Never swim at Praia do Norte. Use the town beach for water and the north beach for watching.
- Do not expect giant waves on a fixed date. Build a trip that works without them.
- A Lisbon mega day tour gives Nazaré only 45 to 90 minutes, so sleep here at least one night if you care about the town.
- Seafront laminated menu restaurants with a tout cost more for less care than back street tascas.
- Check Museu Dr. Joaquim Manso opening on the day, as closures can be unexpected.
Getting around Nazaré: public transport and more
- Walk in town. The funicular links flat Praia to compact Sítio.
- Rede Expressos bus from Lisbon Sete Rios is the default car free route, about 1h30.
- Use taxis or Uber and Bolt for the marina, Pederneira restaurants at night and the station.
- Do not drive to the fort on a big wave day. Walk in from Sítio.
