Green season: heavy rain for an hour or two, usable mornings, lowest prices and emptiest beaches, rougher seas.

Nopparat Thara
light sleepers, families and repeat visitors
Quieter long beach west of Ao Nang with casuarina shade, sunset stalls and the island-boat pier.
Railay
scenery and romance
Car-free and cliff-walled, magical after day boats leave, but boat-only access and limited cheap food.
Tubkaak and Klong Muang

Soft-sand beaches with serious resorts spread thin, sunset views to Hong islands and little to walk to.
Krabi Town
budget travellers and food people
Weekend Walking Street, best southern Thai restaurants and cheapest good rooms, but no beach and a 30-minute transfer.
Think twice about
- Ao Nang beachfront strip
Working tourist strip with touts, bars, cannabis shops, bike and boat noise from early morning; stay one street back if you sleep lightly.
- Railay East
Muddy mangrove shoreline at low tide with no swimming and a low-tide smell; it disappoints anyone expecting Railay West.
- Tonsai Beach
Rustic bungalows, a loud bar scene, basic infrastructure and a reputation for stomach bugs; only for climbers and backpackers on purpose.
- Krabi Town as a beach-trip base
Not a safety issue but a geography one: every sea day starts and ends with a 30-minute transfer.

Is Krabi safe?
- Check your government's current travel advice before you go.
- Scooters are the main injury risk: licensed, helmeted, no night riding on unfamiliar roads and never after drinking.
- Obey red flags in monsoon swells, carry water and climb early, and do not feed monkeys at Tiger Cave or Railay.
- Tap water is not for drinking and dengue mosquitoes are year-round, worst in the rains.
Krabi travel tips: tourist traps to skip
- Do not judge Krabi by Ao Nang beach; Railay, Hong and Poda are the product.
- Avoid midday Phi Phi on the cheapest big boat; pay for early and small, or choose Hong.
- Unpriced by-weight seafood is the classic bill dispute: weigh, price and agree before cooking.
Getting around Krabi: public transport and more
- Songthaews are the cheap local bus on fixed Ao Nang to Krabi Town and coastal routes; confirm the fare.
- Grab works in Ao Nang and Krabi Town; agree tuk-tuk prices first, and Railay and the islands are feet and boats only.
- Scooter rental is about 250 to 350 baht a day and a rental car suits Emerald Pool, hot springs and Tiger Cave days.
