Things to do in Kashan
And where to stay, the best time to visit, what a day costs, and the traps to skip.
Best time to visit Kashan
• a note or something on ✦ an occasion worth the trip
Best window: mild weather, gardens in bloom and rose season from mid May.
Nowruz around 20 March brings crowds and full hotels; book months ahead.
Early June catches the end of rose season, then heat builds fast.
Worst months: regularly over 40C, desert only at dawn or dusk.
Second best window: cooler, clear, best desert light; October is best value.
Cold, quiet and cheap; snow possible in Abyaneh and the Karkas foothills.
What's on

Bazaar of Kashan
A working Safavid bazaar whose Aminoddowleh dome and distillate stalls make it a sight, not just shopping.
Tepe Sialk
A 7,500 year old settlement mound and small museum that rewards history lovers, paired easily with Fin Garden.
Where to stay in Kashan
Sultan Amir Ahmad quarter
first trip, couples, best all-round base
The historic houses, bathhouse and mosque are within a 10 minute walk and most top hotels are here.
Bazaar and Kamal-ol-Molk edge
budget, logistics, late arrivals
Cheaper guesthouses, easier taxis and a short walk to both the bazaar and the historic houses.
Fin Garden and Amir Kabir Street
self-driving families
Greener and quieter with easier parking, but nothing else is walkable and every old town trip needs a taxi.
Think twice about
- Northern bus terminal and highway fringe
No sights and no evening life, with arterial roads hostile to walking. Use it to arrive and leave, not to sleep.
- Amir Kabir highway strip toward Fin Garden
Isolating without your own car. Taxi costs eat the saving and you lose the walkable old town that is Kashan's point.
- Unlit back alleys deep in the old town after dark
The lanes are a maze and some stretches are very dark. Stay in the signed hotel lanes and learn your route by day.

Is Kashan safe?
- Many Western governments currently advise against travel to Iran; check current advice, insurance and visa rules first.
- Dress code is law: headscarf for women in public, covered arms and legs, no shorts for men, no public affection.
- Do not photograph military, police, government buildings or the signed stretches on the Abyaneh road near Natanz.
- Bring all money in cash; no Kashan ATM accepts foreign cards.
Kashan travel tips: tourist traps to skip
- House fatigue: five similar houses in one day blur together, so pace Tabatabaei, Borujerdi and Abbasi.
- Abbasi House is a great sight with a mediocre rated restaurant; visit the house, eat elsewhere.
- Fin Garden at Nowruz and on May weekends is extremely crowded; go on a weekday at opening.
- Never buy a bazaar carpet on day one, and check export rules before a major purchase.
Getting around Kashan: public transport and more
- Walk the old town: houses, bazaar, mosque and most hotels fit inside a 20 minute radius.
- Taxis for Fin Garden, Tepe Sialk and the stations; agree the fare first or ask your hotel the going rate.
- Excursions to Abyaneh, Maranjab, Niasar and Qamsar are driver only; hotel arranged cars are the system.
- Frequent buses link Kashan with Tehran, Qom, Isfahan and Yazd; daily trains run toward Tehran and Yazd.
