Things to do in Ijevan
And where to stay, the best time to visit, what a day costs, and the traps to skip.
Best time to visit Ijevan
• a note or something on ✦ an occasion worth the trip
Spring is the best hiking season, full green forest and hard running waterfalls, with May the wettest month and mud at Lastiver.
Summer is warm and lush, Yell and Lastiver pools at full operation, with normal Tavush rain showers and busy summer weekends.
Autumn brings forest colour, grape harvest for the factory and mushroom dishes, then cold wet weather from late October.
Winter is quiet and cold with snow dusted monasteries, the cheapest rooms, no skiing, and poor conditions for Lastiver and Yell.
March is a thaw shoulder month, changeable and muddy, the least reliable month for trails.

Ijevan travel tips: tourist traps to skip
- A Yerevan coach day that adds Ijevan and the factory to Sevan and Dilijan gives you no Makaravank or Lastiver. Stay a night.
- Navigate by address and map pin, not name alone. Many places trade under a long and a short name in three languages.
- No operating carpet workshop with a confirmed visitor program was found. Do not pay for a carpet experience without a checkable name and address.
- Taxis, market stalls, guesthouses and site fees are dram cash. Carry small notes on excursion days.
Getting around Ijevan: public transport and more
- Bookable Hayreniq minivans run Yerevan to Ijevan several times a day, about two and a half hours via Sevan and Dilijan.
- Walk the centre. Taxis are the transport system for Makaravank, Lastiver and Yenokavan, quoted by the car with waiting time.
- Agree the taxi price and waiting time before setting out and let your guesthouse call the driver.
- A hire car turns three negotiated excursions into one roaming day on the Dilijan to Alaverdi corridor.
