And where to stay, the best time to visit, what a day costs, and the traps to skip.
Best time to visit Ciudad del Este
• a note or something on ✦ an occasion worth the trip
Best window, cooler and drier, with July to September the most comfortable months of the year.
Worst heat and humidity, with highs around 32C, routine afternoon storms and a furnace like midday shopping district.

- Any deal from someone who approached you, since the pirana commission comes out of your pocket.
- Street stall electronics, sunglasses, medicines and very cheap goods, sold with no testing, warranty or exchange.
- Saltos del Monday sold as a Paraguayan Iguazu, and the Hito sold as a developed viewpoint rather than a marker and a view.
Getting around Ciudad del Este: public transport and more
- Use hotel called taxis and pre booked transfers, agree the fare first, and treat bridge area taxi offers from strangers as touting.
- Bridge buses run constantly to Foz do Iguacu but the crossing can take 17 minutes or over an hour, so never plan it tight.
- Itaipu is about 15 minutes away, Saltos del Monday 20 to 25 minutes, and the Brazilian falls about 45 minutes by car in clean traffic.
- Carry small guarani cash for chiperias, buses and the Monday Falls gate, and change money only at established exchange offices.
