Is Asuncion safe?
- Petty risks are phone snatching and pickpocketing in Mercado 4, the centre, at ATMs and on an empty Costanera.
- Keep phones discreet, use Bolt or Uber after dark, and do not wander solo in Chacarita or the port fringe at night.
Asuncion travel tips: tourist traps to skip
- Palacio de Lopez has no public interior tour, enjoy it from the Costanera.
- A mall-only trip could be anywhere, and midday summer sightseeing in 38C heat is the main failure mode.
- Ciudad del Este and Iguazu are 5-6 hours each way, overnights not day trips.
Getting around Asuncion: public transport and more
- Ride-hailing is the system: Bolt is usually cheapest, Uber widely available, local app MUV also operates.
- Airport is about 20 minutes from eastern barrios and 30 from the centre. Walk east barrios by day, ride-hail after dark.
