Things to do in Vienna, splurging
The National Library's State Hall, Tafelspitz at Plachutta, and the Loos American Bar.
This is Vienna for people who want the full thing: grand coffee houses in the morning, serious museums in the afternoon, and restaurants and bars that earn their reputations every night. Three days covers the Innere Stadt and the MuseumsQuartier belt without rushing, and the spending is unapologetic throughout.
Day 1: The 1st District, properly done
A day anchored in the Innere Stadt moves from Hawelka's marble tables and the State Hall's gilded shelves through Figlmüller's legendary schnitzel and the Albertina's staterooms, finishing at Plachutta and a Loos-designed cocktail bar that is reason enough to stay out late.

Café Jelinek eases you in before a morning inside the Leopold Museum's Schiele rooms, a farm-to-table lunch near MQ, a slow hour in the Volksgarten and then Vestibül for dinner inside the Burgtheater, closed out at Tür 7 where the drinks are serious and the garnish stays in the bin.

Where to stay
Rosewood Vienna
Rosewood Vienna sits right in the Innere Stadt and matches the tone of this trip: design-forward, genuinely luxurious and close to almost every stop on all three days.
Hotel Sacher Wien
Hotel Sacher Wien is the canonical splurge address in Vienna, steps from the Albertina and the Opera, and it earns its reputation without apology.

Skip these
- Costumed Mozart ticket sellers push mediocre concerts at premium prices. The opera standing ticket costs less and is the real thing.
- Restaurants with touts on Kärntner Strasse, Graben and along the Naschmarkt main run are the overpriced zone. Walk two streets away.
- The Café Sacher queue can run an hour for cake also served at Demel and other grand cafes. Pick the short queue.
- Hundertwasserhaus is homes with no interior tour. Photograph it free, then visit Kunst Haus Wien for the museum.
