Things to do in Vienna
Coffee, culture and schnitzel, done the way Viennese actually do it.
This is Vienna for people who want the real texture of the city: old coffeehouses, world-class museums, and dinners that feel earned rather than performed. You will move between the historic First District and the grittier, more lived-in neighbourhoods to the west and north, spending money where it counts and skipping the tourist traps that surround them.
Day 1: First District, from coffee to cocktails
A day anchored in the inner city: Dürer at the Albertina, goulash and a hundred cheeses at Steirereck's casual sibling, then the Wiener Schnitzel benchmark at Figlmüller Bäckerstraße and a proper cocktail to close.

Skip these
- Costumed Mozart ticket sellers push mediocre concerts at premium prices. The opera standing ticket costs less and is the real thing.
- Restaurants with touts on Kärntner Strasse, Graben and along the Naschmarkt main run are the overpriced zone. Walk two streets away.
- The Café Sacher queue can run an hour for cake also served at Demel and other grand cafes. Pick the short queue.
- Hundertwasserhaus is homes with no interior tour. Photograph it free, then visit Kunst Haus Wien for the museum.
