Best time to visit Xishuangbanna
• a note or something on ✦ an occasion worth the trip
Dry, sunny and mild, the best window, with dry trails and the lowest dengue risk. Chinese New Year crowds spike in late January or February.
Hot and dry, heat building; start sights early and book ahead for April.
Water Splashing Festival, 13 to 15 April, the Dai New Year; book well ahead and expect to get soaked.
Rains arrive, lush and humid, mosquitoes build, and firefly night tours run at the botanical garden to June.
Wettest months, slippery trails, possible road delays, highest dengue risk and summer holiday crowds.
Rain eases and October turns comfortable, except the crowded National Day Golden Week in the first week of October.
