Things to do in Wuzhou
And where to stay, the best time to visit, what a day costs, and the traps to skip.
Best time to visit Wuzhou
• a note or something on ✦ an occasion worth the trip
Best months. Heat and flood risk recede, skies clear, and the old city and Baiyun Mountain are walkable all day.
A second, greener window before the rains peak, mild and lush with a risk of damp weeks.
Worst months. Peak heat, humidity, rain and flood season, with waterfalls at full flow as compensation.
Cool, dry and quiet, with the clearest skies in December. Spring Festival closes parts of the city, then fills the temples.
Late September joins the best window as heat breaks, per WeatherSpark's late September to mid November guidance.

- Lantern Festival 15th day of lunar month 1, usually February
Lantern displays, folk performance and food stalls close the Spring Festival season in Arcade City.
- National Day Golden Week early October
Domestic demand briefly tightens hotels and fills Huangyao, then vanishes after the holiday week.

Think twice about
- Wuzhou South Station, Longxu District
A functional rail district far from every sight, with thin evening food. You will spend the stay in taxis.
- Industrial and gem processing edges
Workplaces, not neighbourhoods, with little to walk to after dark. Inconvenient as a base, not unsafe.

A day of food, drink, sights and getting around, before the room
What to book ahead
- Liubao Town: a few days ahead
- Book hotels ahead only for Chinese public holidays, when river view rooms go first.
- Arrange a private car for Liubao, Huangyao or Mengshan a day ahead, several days ahead at holidays.
- At Dragon Mother festival time, arrive at the temple before 09:00 or skip that day.
Is Wuzhou safe?
- Watch for silent, fast electric scooters on pavements and inside arcade walkways.
- In summer flood season, obey closed riverside path signs. The arcades exist because this river rises.
- From June to September, sightsee before 10:00 and after 16:00 and carry water. Emergency numbers are 110, 120 and 119.
Wuzhou travel tips: tourist traps to skip
- Gem showroom factory prices are a retail pitch. Buy gems, if at all, as cheap souvenirs.
- The big Dragon Mother statue is a backdrop. The temple halls are the sight, not a separate statue tour.
- Buy guilinggao and Liu Bao tea in city shops where locals buy, not beside attractions.
Getting around Wuzhou: public transport and more
- Hedong and Hexi are each walkable clusters, linked by a bridge, a bus or a short taxi ride.
- Wuzhou South is the high speed station in Longxu, 30 to 40 minutes from the old city. Do not confuse it with central Wuzhou Station.
- High speed trains reach Guangzhou South in about 1.5 to 2 hours. DiDi ride hailing works and is cheap.
