Is Vitoria-Gasteiz safe?
- Very safe with low violent crime and a centre populated late. Main risk is pickpocketing in fiesta crowds and packed Kutxi bars.
- Empty far avenue streets feel disorienting late but are not dangerous here. Emergency number is 112.
Vitoria-Gasteiz travel tips: tourist traps to skip
- Virgen Blanca terraces charge for the view and tired pintxo counters should be skipped. Do not self drive Rioja after tasting.
- Treating Vitoria as a four hour stopover misses the point, and the New Cathedral is not a substitute for Santa Maria.
Getting around Vitoria-Gasteiz: public transport and more
- Walk the centre within a 20 minute radius. Tram and TUVISA buses fill gaps, and cycling replaces buses for Salburua and Armentia.
- The intercity bus station is nowhere near the train station or centre, so take the tram between them. Most visitors fly to Bilbao and bus in.
