- Street crime is very low and walking the old town at night needs only normal awareness.
- Cold and wind are the real risks on towers, walls and sierra hikes. Take proper layers and footwear.
- Mountain roads to the ski stations and Maestrazgo ice over in cold snaps. Carry chains in ski season.
- Never climb on wet sandstone at Rodeno and respect sector closures that protect birds and paintings.
Teruel travel tips: tourist traps to skip
- Dinopolis food is expensive and poor by reviewer consensus. Eat in Teruel and take snacks for children.
- El Torico is a small bull on a column in a small square. Sit down with a vermouth instead of expecting a grand plaza.
- Distances lie. Albarracin is 45 minutes and Beceite two hours, so never build two major excursions into one day.
- Albarracin at weekend lunchtime in summer is the one busy moment. Go early or sleep there.
Getting around Teruel: public transport and more
- Walk the old town. Everything in Things to Do is within a ten minute radius of Plaza del Torico.
- Rent a car for the province. Albarracin, the ski stations, the Maestrazgo and El Parrizal are all car trips.
- There is no direct rail link to Madrid. The slow line to Zaragoza and Valencia pairs well with the Ojos Negros greenway.
- Pack layers in every month. Teruel sits at 915 metres with hot summer days, cool nights and bitter winters.
