Best months. Mild highs in the mid 20s, green pistachio groves, Halfeti at its best and every outdoor pick comfortable.
Shoulder season. Late March and early November are close to the best window, cooler and quieter with lower hotel prices.
Extreme heat. Average highs reach 38 to 39C in July and August and days above 40C are regular. Dawn and dusk sightseeing only.
Cold, quiet and cheap. Highs of 8 to 11C, the year's rain, and museums, bazaars and sıra nights at their emptiest.

Is Sanliurfa safe?
- Summer heat is the main hazard. Carry at least 2 litres of water on excursion days and sightsee at dawn and dusk from June to September.
- Traffic is the city's real daily risk, as a pedestrian and as a passenger.
- Cover shoulders and knees around Balıklıgöl and carry a headscarf daily for mosque and cave entry.
- Take extra care on a Harran day trip, since the town sits close to the Syrian border plain.
- Never touch the Balıklıgöl carp. Feeding them is welcomed, touching is not.
Sanliurfa travel tips: tourist traps to skip
- Judging Göbekli Tepe as a photo stop without the museum first. The trap is the order, not the site.
- Tours and guidebooks still selling an Urfa Castle climb. It is closed for restoration and works only as a backdrop.
- Halfeti on a spring Sunday, when harbour queues and full loud boats replace the quiet river day.
- Soğmatar without a guide or driver who knows it. The unsigned site fails self drivers, not the other way round.
- Bazaar antiques and ancient coins. Exporting true antiquities from Turkey is a serious crime. Buy copper, scarves and isot instead.
Getting around Sanliurfa: public transport and more
- Walk the old town. Balıklıgöl, the bazaars, Kızılkoyun and the museums sit within about a 20 minute walking web.
- Take the municipal No. 0 bus from behind the Archaeology Museum to Göbekli Tepe, roughly hourly from 08:45, and sort an UrfaKart for both legs.
- Hire a driver by the day for Harran, Karahantepe, Soğmatar and Halfeti, and agree route, waiting and price before leaving.
- Şanlıurfa GAP Airport is about 34 to 38 km out. Pre-arrange a hotel transfer if you land late.
