Best things to do in Ruili
Jiegao Port
The national gate facing Muse is a sight in itself, showing the scale of a crossing now closed to tourist crossings.
One Village Two Countries
A Dai village split by marker 71, now visited on the Chinese side only to see a once porous border cut by a fence.
Jiele Golden Pagoda
A quiet group of 17 Theravada towers that is the clearest single introduction to Dai religious culture in Ruili.
Ruili Jewelry Street
Rows of jadeite and gem shops serving the wholesale and livestream trade, best browsed before buying anything.
Jiegao Jade City
The big Jiegao jade market for finished, certified pieces only, with a hard budget set before you enter.
Chinese-Burma Friendship Street
A short street of Burmese food stalls and small shops in Jiegao that shows how daily cross-border life once worked.
Where to stay in Ruili
Central Ruili
food, markets and the easiest base
Walk to Dai restaurants and the night market, taxi out to Jiegao, Moli and Yinjing.
Jiegao
border zone and jade market focus
Closest to the port and Jade City, but thin for dinner and dependent on the trade situation.
Think twice about
- The border strip and fence line at Jiegao, Yinjing and Wanding
A closed, policed border. Stay in designated visitor areas, do not cross any line for a photo and do not follow paths to the fence.
- Muse and northern Shan State, Myanmar
Across the river but unreachable and unsafe: armed conflict and civil unrest in northern Shan State. Do not cross.
- Informal river and village crossings
Any offer to cross by boat, path or swing is illegal and dangerous. There is no informal tourist crossing at Ruili.

Is Ruili safe?
- Arbitrary enforcement of local laws in mainland China, including exit bans, is a practical risk: keep your passport with you and follow local law carefully.
- Myanmar across the river, including Muse in northern Shan State, is an active conflict area: look from the fence, do not go.
- Obey police instructions if fighting near Muse changes road controls or closes sights.
Ruili travel tips: tourist traps to skip
- Jade gambling stones: uncut rough jadeite is gambling, buy only finished pieces at a price you accept for the object itself.
- Livestream jade sales with staged stones, fake experts and planted buyers.
- Do not carry packages or documents across any checkpoint for anyone else, and refuse any contact asking you to cross toward Muse.
Getting around Ruili: public transport and more
- Fly to Dehong Mangshi Airport in Mangshi, then drive about 80 to 100 km to Ruili, plan on 1.5 to 2 hours.
- Use taxis and a hired car for One Village Two Countries, Moli and Wanding in one day.
- Carry your passport at all times, road checkpoints out of Ruili are normal.
