Liuzhou travel tips: tourist traps to skip
- Yaobu Ancient Town is a modern ancient style complex, pleasant at night nearby, never a substitute for Zhongdu or Chengyang.
- Wuxing Street is a base and snack street, not a sight, do not spend a morning on its shops.
- Skip the longest queue for the single most famous stall, a busy second shop usually beats a hyped shop at its worst hour.
- Do not judge luosifen by the packaged instant version, and do not expect Liuzhou to be a cheaper Guilin.
Getting around Liuzhou: public transport and more
- Use Didi for almost everything, rides are cheap and sights are within about 20 minutes of each other.
- Set up Didi, a translation app and Alipay or WeChat Pay before arrival, and carry small cash as backup.
- Take the water bus early and do not rely on it as a timed connection in the late afternoon.
- Bus 35 serves Longtan Park East Gate, and high speed trains link Liuzhou to Guilin, Nanning and Sanjiang South.
