Things to do in Lishui
And where to stay, the best time to visit, what a day costs, and the traps to skip.
Best time to visit Lishui
• a note or something on ✦ an occasion worth the trip
Spring is the photographers' first choice, with flooded mirror terraces, tea picking and the likeliest sea of clouds, at the price of rain.
Summer is hot and humid in the valleys with typhoon rain risk, best for waterfalls, rafting and deep green terraces from early July.
Autumn brings golden harvest terraces and clear mountain air, but Golden Week in early October is the worst crowd and price spike of the year.
Winter is damp cold, quiet and cheap, with rime on the high peaks and bare brown terraces, the weakest Yunhe view.

- Downtown Liandu, Jinyun and Songyang are calm and walkable at night, and no dangerous district was found.
- The real risks are mountain roads in rain and fog, unlit village lanes and terrace ridges after dark.
- Wear non slip shoes for the Little Red Cliff walkway at Xiandu and for wet stone village paths.
- Carry layers and rain gear for Huangmaojian in every season, since weather at 1929 metres turns fast.
Lishui travel tips: tourist traps to skip
- Photo check-in installations inside scenic areas are not worth queue time when the landscape is the attraction.
- Chenjiapu at midday on a weekend is a queue for a bookshop, so go at opening or sleep there.
- The Piyun Celadon Cultural Park was listed temporarily closed, so do not detour without a same week status check.
- One day loops combining Xiandu, Songyang and Yunhe are physically miserable given the mountain distances.
Getting around Lishui: public transport and more
- Hangzhou East to Lishui is about 1 hour 28 minutes by G train, and Jinyun West to Lishui is 15 minutes.
- The sights are not at the stations, so hire a car with driver by the day through your hotel.
- County buses run roughly hourly at best and strand you at dusk, and ride hailing thins to nothing in villages at night.
- Build the trip as clusters, Jinyun, Songyang and a Yunhe night, and never schedule two distant clusters in one day.
